The Family Type Residential Center in Gabrovo is a social service funded by the state for children deprived of parental care aged 15 to 18 (or until completion of secondary education). It is an alternative to orphanages and is delivered as part of the national plan for deinstitutionalization. The service is run 24/7 by a team of qualified professionals – a manager, psychologist, pedagogue, social worker and a medical worker. It was administered by the Municipality of Gabrovo until March 2011 when it was tendered out through a public contest. FSCI won and took over the running while committing to improving the quality of care and optimising the positive outcomes for children. The Youth Center in Gabrovo became a part of the House of Opportunity network helping FSCI to reach out to more youngsters in Gabrovo at an earlier age.
Children are placed in the center by orders of Child Protection Department after a careful selection process in cooperation with FSCI.
