Soap making workshop in Skravena
The young people from the “House of Opportunity” Skravena will make soap instead of traditional martenitsi in the beginning of March. This activity is part of a partnership project between the “Foundation for Social Change and Inclusion” and the Student in Free Enterprise international organisation (SIFE).
The “Soap Workshop” started today (02 March 2012) and it aims to engage young people of unequal social background with a productive activity which will accumulate funds for their support in the “House of Opportunity” programme.
“Labour is a key value and a major factor for the integration of every young person in the society. The young people who have grown up in care homes need precisely that- to be engaged in a meaningful activity which gives them the feeling of belonging, better self- assessment and affirms their dignity. This is a chance for them to increase their potential and to become more adequate to the labour market”- commented Teodora Koleva, executive director of the Foundation for Social Change and Inclusion.
The young people from the “House of Opportunity” will be engaged at first in a 4-day soap making training, led by a team of Bulgarian students in Birmingham, UK, who are part of the international organisation SIFE. The mission of the latter is “to provide the necessary knowledge and confidence to people in need in order to enable them to lead a sustainable life free of dependence on governmental and non- governmental organizations”.
