Roundtable to promote the development of civil society

On July 5, 2014 representatives of FSCI participated in a roundtable debate with the title “Platform for Civic Initiatives” organized by the Carpe Diem association within the Active Sofia project.

The main objective of the project is to create an Internet platform for civil society initiatives through which to promote cooperation between local government and civil society to ensure the sustainable development of the city and improve its management by creating conditions for the active involvement of civil society in the decision making processes.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the municipality, NGOs working in different fields and representatives of the press.

The purpose of the meeting was to share experiences and problems and to discuss ideas on what information would be useful to include in the platform, what changes in the work should made or in what direction should efforts be focused so that myth about NGOs can be dismantled. Another topic of discussion was state policies that hinder the work of NGOs in relation to the donations tax act. We shared about the lack of long-term cooperation from business; the practice of most companies is to make a one-off donation, but not long term commitment. During the discussion the idea formed to prepare an information campaign focused on business, to be delivered by Carpe Diem as part of its forthcoming Internet platform.

Active Sofia is implemented with the financial support of the Sofia Municipality, Europe Programme, 2014 and implemented in support of the Sofia and South-Western European Capital of Culture – 2019 candidature.
