Foodbanks in Bulgaria

A working meeting “Programme Planning for Food Aid through Foodbanks” was held on April 14 and 15 by the Community Development Foundation. It was followed by an informal discussion.

The prime aim of the two-day work wa to plan a system of support through the development of foodbanks.

Teodora Koleva and Nikolay Zlatev on behalf of the Foundation for Social Change and Inclusion took part in the working groups together with representatives of Bulgarian Red Cross, Karitas, Smaritans Association, National Children’s Network and others. It was discussed for the Municipalities to be encouraged to become active partners in the Foodbank Network through their administration and through the structure of BRC. Organizations discussed devising a system for sharing of resourses in order to achieve independence of each element of the mechanism.

The results of the discussion from the meeting will be summarized, analysed and used in proposals to Forum Foodbanks regarding strategic progremmes to ensure sustainability of the national mechanism for Food Aid.
