For every person, a home is more than simply a place to live. It is security, support, and the feeling that there is somewhere to begin and somewhere to return to. For young people who have grown up without parental care, this starting point is often more difficult and requires support at the very moment they take their first steps towards independence.

It is around this very idea that the National Real Estate Association, with the support of DSK Home and the media partnership of Darik Radio, came together through the initiative “A Home for Every Child | Give a Start”, launched in support of FSCI’s House of Opportunity programme.

The campaign aims to support young people leaving the care system as they begin their journey towards independent living. Because the transition to independence is not simply about having a place to live. It also means education, employment, practical skills, confidence, and people who believe in you.

The funds raised through the initiative will help young people gain knowledge and practical skills, develop professionally, and build a stronger foundation for their future.

A special part of the campaign is dedicated to children’s drawings on the theme “My Dream Home”. In these drawings, a home is not simply a building. It represents warmth, closeness, peace, and a place where a person feels accepted. Sometimes children’s perspectives remind us most powerfully of what the word “home” truly means.

For many years now, FSCI’s House of Opportunity programme has supported young people in their transition to independent living. Initiatives such as “A Home for Every Child | Give a Start” demonstrate just how meaningful change can be when professional communities and people united by a common cause come together around one idea: every child and every young person deserves the opportunity for a confident and dignified start in life.

We found him in a small, remote village, in a semi-abandoned house. He was living in conditions that could hardly be called a home. He slept on an old mattress on the floor, with no kitchen, no bathroom, and none of the most basic conditions for a dignified life. This was not just poverty – it was isolation, lack of support, and a long history of neglect and abandonment.

We invited him to become part of our community. He accepted.

From the very first days, we saw in Yuli something far beyond his circumstances. A calm, intelligent, well-mannered young man, carrying within him both the strength to move forward and the vulnerability of a child who had not received enough care. Behind his silence was a story marked by repeated separations and a lack of stability.

We started from the basics.

We provided him with a safe place to live. A real bed, shelter, and an environment where he could finally “catch his breath.” Gradually, we began to build structure and direction into his daily life. We helped him find a job – not just a source of income, but an opportunity for belonging and growth. Today, Yuli continues to work there and has built a stable relationship with his employers, who have also become part of his support system.

One of the key steps was restoring his access to healthcare. With the support of our team and thanks to the commitment of his employers, Yuli regained access to medical care. He registered with a GP, underwent the necessary examinations, and began treatment. We stood by him at every stage – both as professionals and emotionally, as part of the “House of Opportunity” community.

In this process, we were not alone. Volunteers and friends of the organisation became actively involved, helping both with health consultations and with improving his living environment. This included repairing his bed, providing a new mattress, and creating a more comfortable space that could support his sense of safety and normality.

Step by step, day by day, Yuli began to build his independence.

And so, a year later, he made an important decision – to take the next step and try living independently outside “House of Opportunity.” It is a moment filled with both pride and anticipation. Because the true goal of our work is not for people to stay with us, but to move forward feeling confident and supported.

Yuli knows that our door remains open. That he is not alone. That there is always a place he can return to for advice, support, or simply human connection.

And we continue.

Very soon, we are expecting two new young people who are about to turn 18 and leave the child care system. For many, this often means one thing – being left to manage on their own, without direction and without support.

We want to change that.

To give them a chance. Time. A supportive environment. People who believe in them.

Over the past 11 years, with exceptional dedication to our cause, great care, and professional expertise, the team of the “Foundation for Social Change and Inclusion” created a space where children from the neighborhood could learn, play, and develop their full potential. Here, they took their first steps on the path of their education and future development. In small groups, with a focus on language skills, social behavior, and learning habits, children between the ages of 3 and 5 were prepared for preschool education. Each year, Svetogled Center sent its children on to preschool and school environments, as they continued on their journey toward “the big world.”

With great sadness and responsibility, we shared in December 2025 that FSCI would discontinue the activities of the Children’s Center due to a lack of sustainable funding.

However, for our team, the “Svetogled” Center has never been just a social service. It has always been a cause. That is why, as early as November 2025, we initiated a series of meetings and discussions with our partner organization, CONCORDIA Bulgaria, in search of ways to ensure the continuation of its work. In the same month, the leadership of both organizations reached an agreement for the continuity of the service, starting from January 2026.

Today, this story of child development continues with CONCORDIA Bulgaria!

Fully equipped and ready, our Center—together with its wonderful team—continues to give the gift of a future!

We are happy that the mission and work of the team at the “Foundation for Social Change and Inclusion” will continue. With deep gratitude and recognition for what has already been achieved, we are handing over the service, with a clear understanding that true change happens in everyday life—in conversations, in play, in patience, and in perseverance.

This legacy lives on in the children who have grown up with us.

Today, we are delighted to share that Vesko is already in his second semester!

Thanks to the BCause Foundation and its “We Can” Fund, as well as all the people who joined the campaign, the semester tuition has been covered, and Vesko is now able to continue pursuing his greatest dream – to become an actor.

For him, this is not just an opportunity to study. It is proof that when someone believes in you and extends a helping hand, the world becomes a little fairer and dreams become much more attainable.

Vesko shares that he is happy, motivated and grateful. He is studying with enthusiasm, meeting inspiring lecturers and fellow students, and is even more convinced that he has chosen his path.

When young people who grew up without parental care come of age and leave social institutions, they quickly face the choice – staying on the street or trying to manage their lives on their own as adults. Unfortunately, however, they very often have no knowledge and skills for a dignified and fulfilling life.

The Program “House of Opportunity” of Foundation for Social Change and Inclusion (FSPV) is a network of family-type housing in which young people with similar backgrounds make the necessary sustainable transition to independent life.

How do we help them? With shelter, food, formal and informal training, finance management, personal health care, developing social skills, finding and keeping permanent employment, professional courses and even university education.

Within 2 years FSPV gives young people a chance to “get on their feet” so that they do not have to be supported by social services or institutions in the future. Since the beginning of the program, more than 200 young people have lived “House of Opportunity”. More than 2/3 of which are now independent individuals. Some are students, others are professionally developing, and there are already successful and caring parents among them.

“House of Opportunity” has two apartments in the city of Sofia – g.k. Lyulin and Zh.k. Druzhba, with a total capacity of 10 young people. Eight years after the start of the service on the territory of Sofia Municipality, it is time to repair and refresh the apartments.

Your donations will help the Foundation to collect the necessary funds as quickly as possible for materials to repair and improve the living conditions of young people who, like all of us, need peace and comfort.

This year’s charity tournament of Murphy’s Misfits turned into a real sports holiday. The financial result is 2 350 leva, which will cover the costs for rent of the “House of Opportunity” observed home in Ruse for half a year.

Many of the participants played touch rugby for the first time, following the instructuions of the professionals.

Members of the team of the “Foundation for Social Change and Inclusion” and youngsters from the “House of Opportunity” programme also took part in the games of the tournament.

The donated amount of  2 350 leva will cover the costs for the rent for six months of one of the five “Houses of Opportunity” of the foundation, located in Ruse.
